Just changed the upstream passenger side O2 sensor, and have now run afoul of the dreaded drive cycle. I have driven it almost 150 miles, but still will not reset all the way. Battery is strong. 2001 4.7 auto. Any similar stories out there.

Whoever the engineers are that come up with the "Drive cycle" dog and pony show should spend eternity fixing wiring problems on British cars.

Thanks

Are you talking about getting the engine light to go
out?

Nope. The vehicle computer must complete a "Drive Cycle" which consists of a bunch of crap having to do with OBD II electronics. When you hook the vehicle up to an emissions test machine it says that a drive cycle has not been accomplished. Given the cleared codes and number of miles driven this should have been accomplished, but I continue to get "no drive cycle" . Much much more involved than a simple check engine light.

I'm going through the drive cycle charade as I write this. Emissions place said need to complete drive cycle in order to pass. Obviously, the dirt lot dealer I bought the truck from disconnected the battery in order to clear the check engine light. So, I drove 170 miles, thinking that would do the trick. Took it back to emissions and it failed again. A mechanic then told me that the cycle actually has to do with a series (don't know how many) of cold starts and warm ups. I must have completed the cycle shortly after, because the engine light came on. Determined culprit was a split fuel line. Replaced line and reset codes. Now driving it daily just to make sure engine light doesn't reappear. Costs $9 every time I run it through emissions. Just wish I knew how long, or how many cold start then warm ups I need to complete.
