 Subject: speed sensor and gear wheel rplacement

when replacing the speed sensor gear wheel,does the wheel and shaft come with the housing or do you punch the shaft out and push the new one in,i got a new one today and think it may not be the right one,

the problem started when my speedo startd to bounce ,then shifting out of sync . the no spedo at all .it doesnt shift into the top gear and the tac is at about 2900 rpm at highway speed,i pulled out the speed sensor and the gear wheel had chewed the teeth down on the inside of the wheel,has any one ever been through this ?,i have a 95 sport 4x4 and have a few more questions regarding this if i get any replies
