my truck is a 99 dakota extended cab with a 318 in it. My problem is the truck will not idle,it starts good and will run as long as your on the peddle, but as soon as your foot comes off the gas it dies.

Nate, does this just occur on the first start of the morning? If so, you may want to get your battery load tested. Especially with these colder temps. Idle memory loss on the first start of the day is one of the first signs your battery is on the way out.

I talked to a Dodge mechanic a friends friend of mine,He said the same thing and may take 5-10 minutes of running to reset itself. He also had me pull the carb and pull the idle motor off the back and clean all parts very well. The truck starter and after a few minutes it idled fine.

Daniel, have you battery load tested. A weak battery will cause those symptoms.

Have you checked for codes? Did you bring your battery to someone to test? Was it Load Tested?

IAC-Idle/Air Control Valve.

My 97 Dodge Dakota with a 5.2L did the same start fine, then die when I pushed the clutch in, and the RPMs dropped, engine died. It would restart fine and idle at normal. Start driving again and same thing would happen. Found out I had a dirty IAC and replaced for $35 and 5 minutes of time. Truck runs fine now. No problems. I talked with a few people on different forum and they stated the IAC valve goes out a lot. Never happened to me until 113k, but changing it out saved a lot of time and headache.
