I've been dealing with this problem for too long, not to mention how much $$ i've thrown at it. So I'm back looking for more input. The truck is a 94 with the 5.2L 318. When the truck is first started it has a severe knock (sounds like a deasal) whick immediately goes away. After it has been running for about 5 minutes at idle the oil light comes on. It doesn't knock unless it is under a load, eventually the pressure gage will drop showing no oil pressure. When the RPM's are increased the light goes out and the pressure goes up. The truck runs great on the freeway, doesn't even get hot, pressure stays up, etc. But as soon as I take an exit ramp and slow to a stop theres that damn light and gage dropping. I've changed the oil pump, sending unit, the Main bearings and the rod bearings, nothing has worked, not even Lucas extra thick oil can stop it. Now I've had it with this P.O.S. and looking for something different to park in my driveway. Somebody out there must have the answer, Please Help before I Break stuff. Thanks

I am assuming that you cleaned the oil pump pickup screen. how about the pressure relief valve?

Other than those depending on miles, could be the cam bearings are gone.

i agree had a jeep one time ate the cam bearing out and lost all oil press. You need to replace the oil pressure swith on the back of the block by the dist. and put a mechincal guage in place. watch your oil press. in relation to the RPM. more rpm the more oil press??? and vise vers.??? If so than there you go cam bearings. It sounds like thats the only thing it could be since you've replaced all other bearings. If thats the case i would say do a entire rebuild from top to bottom "just in case of any damage that would of occured" regrind your crank journals and rod ends and replace with proper size bearings, if needed.

pressure relief valve?
where is that located?
Cam bearings?
Rebuild from top to bottom?
It's a 94 so if it gets a rebuild I will start with a 16LB sledgehammer and work my way down. I must have dumped $6,000.00 into this thing. And thats after I bought it for $2,500.00. I
am now 47 well preserved years old and this vehicle is more high maintanance than my wife. Come to think of it, she could use a top to bottom rebuild too. Hmmmm, what to do, what to do. It's the wife or the truck........Coin flip.........AAAND........FIGURES........Looks like I'm lookin for a new woman, with a low maintanance vehicle. Must like catering to her man and not afraid to do things my way. Must have 20/20 vision so she can see that I am always right and educated enough to read between the lines..Must also be willing to pay for complete engine rebuild on my poor old tired truck....

LOL SOunds like you've got your hands full. And your right, you could've built a high HP motor for what you've got in that motor now. If it was me i'd look into another motor but if you do the labor part of pulling and installing the motor or could have the cam bearings changed pretty cheap, but if you hve a shop do it then yeah you be better off selling the truck and take a loss. Use the truk at one of those CASH FOR TRASH!!!!
