Subject: 4x4 Fluids

I recently bought an '05 4.7 QC 4x4 auto. I changed the spark plugs and oil last week. The plugs may have been original (likely) so I think changing the trans fluid, transfer case and differentials is probably in order.

I have changed transmission fluid before in other vehicles, so I should be ok with that. This is my first 4x4 though so never done a transfer case, and I have never changed differential fluid before. I believe the transfer case is similar to the transmission, there isn't a drain plug or anything on this truck, right? How do you refill the transfer case? Also, the transfer case is right behind the transmission? (I haven't looked too closely yet.)

While I was under the truck changing the oil, I was looking at the front differential to find out where the fill plug is at. I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for, but I found a rubber cap on the front middle/top of it. I popped that off and a little diff fluid came out. Is that little rubber cap the only thing that holds it in? (I thought it would be a little more durable than that...) Also, I read that it should be about 1/2" to 1/4" below the fill cap, so if some was coming out it was too high? The truck was level when I checked it. The fluid in the front was very clean, so I may just change the rear fluid.
