So you did this without a manual?

The Hydraulic valve lash adjusters may take a while to pump up

no i had a chilton but i took the front end of the motor off last night. the waterpump housing to show the timing chains it seems that they are real sloppy. It seems to me that this is whats making the noise.if you manualy turn over the engine you see the chains sag then they snap tight.

your chain tensioners are not working right. All of the timing chains should be tight at all times, no slack. Remove the tensioners (for secondary chains) and make sure the oil passages are clear. You had to compress the tensioners and install the retaining pin before you installed the tensioners. I assume you removed the pins once the chain was installed. This would allow all the tensioners to release and apply immediate tension. If you pull the retaining pin from the tensioners and the tensioner does not immediately spring to provide tension, replace the tensioner. If you're doing a rebuild or if you have a lot of miles, you should have gotten new tensioners...its cheap insurance.

can you tell me any more about the valve lash adjusters? when you turn the engine over the chain tensioners are fully extended but the chains get about an Inch of deflexsion them on the other side of the tensioner. Then the chains snap tight and ride on the chain tensioners. but my new problem is that i've got cylinders 2,4,6, and 8 out of time. how can i get it back the easiest way posible?
