Subject: DTC #37 Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid
IP: Logged

Message:
DRB scan tool display for DTC 37 reads " Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid CKT- An open or shorted condition detected in the CKT circuit"
OR
"Trans.Temp. Sensor Voltage Too Low- Voltage low at trans. temp. sensor"
OR
"Trans. Temp. Sensor Voltage Too High- Voltage at trans. temp. sensor too high"

Anybody have any idea what the CKT circuit is? I don't have a temp sensor on my trans. but I was recieving this code. I have no idea what the CKT circuit controls. I figure that the torque converter clutch must have something to do with torque converter lock and unlock but am unaware of a solenoid that controls that function. This CKT phrase is not listed in the Chilton or Hanes repair manuals. Anybody?? Somebody?? Nobody??
It can't be the Crankshaft or Camshaft position sensors. if/when these circuits fail no trouble code is sent because the engine will not start. And since the letters are upper case and grouped together I don't think its an abreviation. Plus it is referred to as the CKT circuit. Maybe I should ask the wife? After all she thinks she knows everything else...But what if she does know??? Can't take that chance, life's hard enough!!!

CKT stands for "circuit". THe code refers to your torque converter clutch solenoid circuit. You have an electric solenoid that is activated to lock the torque converter once you reach a certain speed. The code means you have a problem with solenoid or the wires or the connectors that lead to it. How does the truck run. Do you see (on tach) or feel the RPMs go down when reach 50-55 MPH? You need to give more info, but you probably have a bad solenoid.

The truck runs good but the upshift from 1st to 2nd is real late, like sometimes it wont shift until 5,000 rpms. Then its like it jumps through the gears to 5th. I just replaced the torque converter less than two months ago. I guess I'll need to drop the pan again and check out the solenoid inside for a short?? Why do they call it the CKT circuit if CKT means circuit? That just doesn't make sense. I want a second opinion...But until I get one I'm gonna assume your correct and see if I can locate the short. However, after I cleared the codes I have not had this code return and I have driven the truck, I just haven't driven it too far because of this shifting problem. I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks
