While I was under the hood today trying to figure out why the truck is only cranking but refuses to start I happened to rest my right arm on the brake booster while my left hand was resting on the positive battery post. I realized that the tingling sensation I was feeling was not the joy from looking at the speciman before me but I was receiving a pretty good shock. I can't recall this ever happening before so I'm guessing there must be a short somewhere but where do I start? I was not wearing any metal or standing in a puddle. The key was in the run position and I was holding my remote start switch. A short somewhere is most likely why the truck would not start when I turned the key or hit the switch. Somebody point me in the direction I shoud start lookin cause electrical stuff seems to kick my ass whenever I rub up against it.
thanx

you can try process of elimination
you will need a large bucket or deep puddle
to stand in
with the truck running and standing in the water
use index finger and start touching things
when your hair curls or
you get knocked on your buttocks
you'll know you find the spot

Human skin does conduct electricity. You will feel a tingling even from 12VDC if you touch the positive terminal to a ground. This does not mean that you have a short. Distributor, crank position sensor is a more likely cause of not firing.

Brake booster is grounded. You touched +12VDC and ground, and your skin conducted electricity.
Situation normal.

Let me translate. YOU created the short. If you want to correct the problem, don't touch the battery terminal with one hand while touching grounded metel (anything metel on the truck)with the other hand
