I need a 4spd auto trans for my 2wd 92 Dak(5.2). I've found one in a 95 behind a 3.9 but one shop tells me it won't work and another says it will. Any thoughts?

I'm not 100% sure but, I believe they are both RH series trans. Maybe someone else with an auto(mine is a 5spd manual) will chime in.
I don'e think they went to the RE series until '96.

The 42rh will work behind the 318. that is my current setup, i
swapped out the v6 for the 318 and the trans is holding up fine
and its a direct bolt in.

Thanks for the comments. Adam H,I like the way you think, and I am looking for a direct bolt-in. Do you have any more details? Were you dealing with the same years I'm talking about? I'd heard there may be an issue with the starter bolting up different and having to use the dust shield off the V6. More good news, please.

As far as i know all the 5.2, 5.9 and 3.9 have the same tranny
mount set up and engine mounts so everything from your current
tranny will bolt up to the engine/ frame. the set up i have is a 93
dakota with a 318 i pulled from a 94 jeep grand cheroke. I had no
problem swapping out the dust shield or supports from the 3.9 to
the 5.2 so it should be a direct bolt in.
