Subject: Fuel filter for 5.2?
IP: Logged

Message:
I can not find any info anywhere, including the parts shops, on a
replacement fuel filter for a '97 dakota with the 5.2. It uses one,
right? Does it just use any inline filter?

Unfortunately, NO. It is part of the Fuel Pump/ Fuel Sending Unit in the fuel tank.

Yikes. Between this and the all in one heating/cooling unit I say
that Dodge deserves to go under. Ridiculous.

Thanks for the reply.

NOT ridiculous. They all build them like this. My truck has well ove 100k miles and still doesn't need the fuel filter changed.

What do you mean by the A/C and Heating in one unit?

I'm at about 180k and it's sputtering like crazy lately. I tried
some additive that may br helping.

There are shared ac and heating parts. I dont remember which.

No more shared parts than any other manufacturer.
You should learn more before you condemn Dodge.

Has it been tuned lately? Have you cleaned the Throttle Body?

Yes and yes although theyre probably due again (its been about
6 months).

Btw, lead follow or get out of the way is what the companies that
dont need taxpayer money get to say. I'll look up the parts I
was referring to when I get onto my computer tonight.

Companies that do and don't need taxpayer money get to say pretty much similar things - no idea what your point is here ? Especially since I am not a company. So, what did you find ? The common parts are mostly control knobs and ductwork - just like other manufacturers. They also use the AC to provide dry, warm air in defrost mode. Once again, just like most other manufacturers.

That was a commercial slogan of one of the big 3 (Chevy I
think) about 10 years ago. They've followed their advice I guess.

Havent looked it up yet...have been working, playing and sitting
at the repair shop every waking hour lately.

I believe you are mistaken about that. The Chevy slogan of about ten years ago was "like a rock". Lead, follow, or get out of the way is a slogan of the US Marine Corps. It has been used by others, but I don't recall it ever being used by an automotive manufacturer.

One more common part for both systems would be the blower motor. Once again, just like the other manufacturers. It looks like you are so upset over your problem that you just aren't thinking straight.

My 97 Dakota is doing the same thing and I looked for the fuel filter for an hour. I didn't find one. Finally I brought it back to the shop. He changed out an O2 sensor. I picked it up today and it's still running rough. He told me to run some injector cleaner through as he though it might have a clogged injector or two. he told me to run some cleaner through it and see if it clears up.

Buy some Seafoam and follow the directions on the can and that should clean up your fuel system.
