I have a 1991 Dakota, v-8 318, throtle body injection. The engine runs and then quits, no fuel from injectors. I tested the fuel pump circuit and have wired around the auto shutdown relay to make sure the fuel pump was energized and it runs when you turn on the switch. When the engine quits there is no fuel coming out of the injectors. I have done the puter test and shows standby memory loss and no distributor signal. I think it may be the computer but would apreciate a reply on if anyone has had that problem of the injectors simply stop and then in a little while it starts back up and runs great and quits unexpectedly.

Did you redo , or at least check that splice under the fuse/relay box ?
Unwrap the tape about 6 to 8 inches down the wiring harness - see splice of 3 or 4 wires .
Usually best to redo it regardless.
Also check ground/chassis connections under the hood - I believe -main computer ground is to
bracket of alternator..

It did say no distributor signal. Just a wild guess but maybe the distributor is bad. If the pcm isn't getting a signal it kills the fuel.

I removed each ground from the fender sheilds and firewall, I cleaned the terminals and re-installed them. I removed the connector from the pcm and made sure all terminals were clean and re-installed them. I removed the fuse panel and un taped the wiring to the firewall connector and also up past the fuse panel all the way up and could not find a splice. I am not able to remove the codes 12-memory standby power lost, 41-charging system excess or lack of field current, and 42-automatic shutdown driver relay.

I have disconnected the ground on the vehicle several times to wipe out the trouble codes but they still exist.

A few months ago the alternator quit charging and I found there was no field voltage, and that the field voltage comes from the computer so I just purchased an external regulator for that alternator and installed it and it worked fine since then. The automatic shutdown relay I wired around so the fuel pump would run when the key was turned on and the vehicle started right up and ran until it quit in about 100 yards and then I made sure the fuel pump was running and tried to start it and found no fuel coming from the tbi injectors. Well now it is being test driven and I do not have a good feeling about fixing the problem.

Is removing the set trouble codes more than just disconnecting the ground cable ?

I have replaced the magnetic pickup in the distributor, the computer still reads no distributor input signal, the ignition timing unit is inside the PCM on this model.

Where can i get a good replacement of the PCM for a fair price ?
