Subject: Gateway Tire is a ripoff!!

Just a heads up. My 4.7l was running rough and throwing a "miss on cylinder 7" code. I took it to Gateway Tire and asked them to check it out. They tell me I need new plugs at $5 a piece and that the coil on cylinder 7 is shot. They'll have to contact the dealer for a price on that, but labor will be in the $200 range just for the plugs.

I guess they thought I was an idiot. I drove directly to my local NAPA and bought a set of Champion Copper plugs identical to the factory originals that came out of the truck for $13. It took me a half an hour to install them (while drinking a large bourbon :). No more code, no more rough acceleration or idle.

I don't know if Gateway is local, regional or national chain, but that's the second time they tried to rip me off. Two years ago they quote my girlfreind $90 to put a battery in her truck and then tried to charge her $140 when she when to pick it up. Luckily she had them write down the original estimate. A phone call and an e-mail to our local BBB and the bill was reduced to $70!! The only reason they got a second chance is they are right at the end of my street and they had a whole new management team (read team of theives) running the place.

AVOID GATEWAY UNLESS YOU ARE MADE OF MONEY AND COST IS NO OBJECT!!

don't have any chain around here by that name. at least you know not to bother with them anymore without actually being ripped off. too many don't find out until it's too late.
