 Subject: 97 dakota wont run anymore

truck was running great. i took the battery off, to clean the terminals. like noraml upkeep on a car. put the battery back in it, and started it up, and it just dies. it will run for abour 2-3 seconds, and just kill it'self. i noticed i'm not getting a reading on my tach anymore, and it's got some lights coming on in the dash which include; security, low fuel, air bags, ABS, and brake. idk what happened. everything was fine and all i did was clean some terminals. i charged the battery and put a different one in. didn't help. the guy i bought it from had a bull dog security remote start hooked up. and i think it's messing with it somehow. idk if it's hooked up wrong or anything, but i removed the bull dog system from the wiring, and it does the same thing. any help would be great

What year is it? Do you have a "chipped" key for the factory security? A remote start system for a truck with chipped ignition key has a bypass module that sends out a signal when you remote start. If the module is sending out the signal while your trying to start with the key the factory security system will shut down the engine. The way you can tell is to start the truck .... watch for the security light in the dash .. if it flashes when the engine dies ... then you need to find the module and disable it.... its causing the problem your having.

yes, it is in fact a 1997, and it does not have a chipped key. i do not have the remote start buttons for it either. i actually removed the entrie remote start system, and haven't gotten anything. i pulled the 10A fuse in the fuse panel for the labeled "cluster" and it will start and continue to run, but i have no instrument readings, including tach, fuel, oil pressure, etc. i believe it has to be something in the main CTM, Central Timing MOdule

Justin you activated the factory alarm system and its doing exactly what its supposed to.
First lock and shut all the doors wait 30secs and then unlock the drivers door with the KEY not the remote then try to start it, if it does the same thing start over and unlock the passengers side door first and then start it

yes, sadly, i knew that it was activated somehow. but i tried everything to de-activate it. i called the dealership. the truck is fine again. just wait til you hear what was wrong with it. lol
The overhead console didn't work when i got the truck. never thought anything of it. and still dont really know what has changed, but the overhead console circuit board has a grounded wire somewhere, and was fried. it was sending a bad signal to the CTM, and for some reason, it was slightly grounding out the CTM also. so it couldn't send the required volts to the dashboard, for the gauges, and the security system, couldn't properly de-activate

Glad its working I'll bet the mounting screw in the console was shorting the buss wire and thats why no signals to the ctm or dash

Okay, I bought a 1997 dakota v6 magnum. it had
a starting issue and the owner said it was a
random issue. I had it towed home. the next day
I tried to get it started, pumped the gas a lot
and she fired up. I replaced the AICV and the
PCV, ran great, idled great. At least for 2
starts. changed the oil,started up great again,
drove 6 miles and turned it off. with my window
down I was talking to a friend for about 30
mins maybe a little more and it would start (I
never got out of the truck). today when
checking the fuses, I was also try to get a
code to come up on the odometer cause a scanner
wouldn't pick up any faults in the system. I
went to get out and accidentally pressed the
door lock switch on the driver door. I
immediately unlocked it and shut the door.
after looking for blown fuses in the engine
compartment, I go to open the driver door and
the security alarm goes off, putting the key in
the ignition didn't stop it. I unplugged the
horn itself. the security light in the cluster
was flashing and the check engine light was on.
dc'd the battery and looked up some stuff
online. went back out and the alarm wasn't
going off anymore and they check engine light
was gone. the truck persists not to start, and
I believe it's because of the security system,
or pcm keeping the auto shutdown system
somewhat engaged.
any help is appreciated

truck overheated let it cool down got it back
home..later tried to start it..nothing checked all
fuses...replaced crank sensor.gas gage also not
working no fuel no spark fuel pump relay and power
relay not clicking.. did a few test where relay plugs
in and no ground found..friend hooked up a computer
and it will not conect HELP
