I have a 2001 dodge dakota 2wd with a 4.7 V8. the other day my check engine light came on so i checked what codes there were and i have a p 161, p 442, and a p 455. I am wondering what these codes are and will they hurt the truck if i keep driving with them.

thanks for any help.

P0161 Oxygen O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 2, Sensor 2)

HO2S signal tracking (due to oil or moisture in the connector)
are you loosing power steering fluid?

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

Check your gas cap.

P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

check the hoses that go to the charcoal canister under the cab i believwe in front of the fuel tank.

and yes you can drive with those codes and it will not hurt the truck but, i bet you're getting crappy mileage.

you can find those codes and more @

damn i need to edit that last part about not hurting the truck. if it runs too rich for a long period of time you can ruin the cat converter.

well about a month ago i replaced that o2 sensor. it was running rich but since i have replaced it there has been no problem of it running rich or poor gas mileage. I usually average 15-16, mostly city driving. so no the gas mileage has not been crappy.

the reason i ask is that there is a well known problem with the power steering pressure switch on the 4.7's wiring harness leaking down the harness to the connector for the O2 on that side and causing a false O2 DTC.

yea i remember that from when i was asking about the replacing my 02 sensor. i just checked and i have no power steering leaks so that is ruled out.

Alright here is the deal. I unplugged the battery to reset the engine light. A couple of days went by and then the check engine light came back on. I have a P161 and P303. when i accelerate it feels like it goes then cuts out then goes again. Checked my O2 sensors to see if it was wet from power steering fluid and its not. Already checked all spark plugs and wires. Where do i go from here.

Steering fluid issue only affects bank 1 O2 sensor (driver side).
