What kind of ideas are you looking for ? You could get a used one at the boneyard. If you want something stronger than stock, Auburn makes a good LSD, that's what I went with. There are other alternatives as well.

No they don't. Those things fall apart. Factory parts are the most bag for your buck. Go to http://www.dodge-auto-parts-dealer.com/ for all of your parts needs.

Be advised, most if not all posts under the name TexasTodd are no longer from him. They are from someone spoofing him to detract from the site. The factory limited slips are commonly problematical.
The only "posi" rears you will find in a boneyard are in GM products; that's their trade name for limited slip.

My experience with LSD's has been negative every time, so I quit using them. On snow-packed roads they cause the truck's tail to swing out and have spun me sideways many times. In this regard I refer to them as suicide axles.

An open diff will cause one wheel to spin, not both. The truck stays straight.

I suppose if you are into mud a lot a LSD would help. Otherwise I wouldn't give a pinch of coonsh*t for one.

choochoo's right about the LSD causing the back end of the truck to swing out on slippery surfaces. You really have to watch for that, and you can pull out by feathering the throttle and steering just right.

I had a Dana Trak-Lock installed in my Dak, and it has worked very well in getting the boats out of the water on a slippery boat ramp. That's the only reason I have the LSD. I have also tried to take the truck to the desert many times, and it likes to get stuck in the deep sand. My first two trucks were 4WD, and my next one will be 4WD too. There is no substitute! Live and learn.

My experience has been positive, but it helps to know how to drive in the slick stuff. An open rear can spin both tires in low traction situations if you give it too much power. You just have to understand the power delivery for the situation you are in.
For sand, the trick is to run wide tires at low pressure with the least amount of tread, so they don't dig themselves in.

I agree with kowalski. I have a lsd in my rear. We get a decent amount of snow up here in ct and even more at our cabin in NH. I've never had the problem of my rear end spinning out, because I know how to drive. Not to offend anyone here but, if you've had that problem then you just dont know how to drive... plain and simple.
Thats actually 1 reason why most vehicles don't have lsd, because people don't know how to drive with them.

I have a LSD in my 2000 4.7 4x4, but did not realize there was a trick when driving in snow with them. I guess you just have to be careful not to give it too much gas and spin out.

With a 4x4, it might not be as much of an issue.

I had it happen once, and I recovered from it perfectly. Now I anticipate the condition, and correct for it. The tendancy for the rear end to try to pass up the front end during hard acceleration on a slippery surface is something people need to be aware of whether they know how to drive or not. Plain and simple, I don't know how to drive, but that doesn't stop me!

LSD is not to blame when you spin out, they're not dangerous, and they're not detrimental. Loss of control is driver error every time. Yes, it's hard to keep the truck on the snow pack at 60mph. That's why you should slow down.

When I drive in bad weather, I'm always amazed at how many 4wd suv's are in the ditch. I know most American drivers are stupid, but it still amazes me.

Yeah, 4x4 helps them go; but then they think they can drive like in normal conditions. They don't stop to realize it doesn't help you stop ! You're right - it's the suv crowd more than the p'up guys. They can be pretty clueless. And it seems worse the first storms of the year, when they forget anything they knew from the year before...

Except for you. you couldn't drive a hot wheel car without crashing it.
