Subject: MPG 05 quad 4.7

Message:
I have recently purchased an 05 quad cab 4.7 with approx 30,000 miles on it. I done some research before purchase and this truck was reported as to get 17 mpg city, and 19-20 highway. I just filled up for the first time tonight (cycled my first tank after original fill up) and averaged my MPG.....which consisted of about 100 miles high way and about 80 or so in town. (Not a big town, but several stop lights....so some stop and go driving) I got 13 MPG....and I am a little disapointed with this......I do not speed, and I tend to keep my foot outa the pedal.....is there something I can do to improve this? Or am I stuck with 13 MPG for life?????????

Are your tires properly inflated - all the same at max psig?
Are you burning the right fuel? Should be 87 octane.
Did you do the math correctly? Fill right up; record miles; drive using most of tank; Fill right up; record gallons and miles; divide miles by gallons used.

Don't be afraid to get in the throttle. My QC gets 23mpg at 70 mph. Only mod on the 4.7 is a K&N drop-in air filter.

Check spark plugs. Replace w/ OE Champions.

Hope this helps.

not sure where you got your info. from.

I bought my 2000 4.7 liter new when gas was 1.25 a gallon.

I avg 13-15 driving around town.....you probably will not get much better than that.

Keep it tuned up, running good, tires inflated, etc.

Better get used to 40-50 bucks a week for gas depending on how much you drive.

I agree with JerryM. Even with all the work done to our Dak I can get at best 300 miles out of a tank of fuel usually 280ish. She can get 320 +. I was disapointed until I weighed it. Heavy little truck with a small but potent v8. Would be nice it they would do a diesel dak. The ram gets better fuel mileage but thats another storry.

WTF? I floor my truck often each time I drive my 4X4 QC 4.7 and usually average at least 13MPG

I never drive it nice. It should get mixed of 14+ no problem if you do any steady driving at all. Mine is usually driven to the store after work, etc. So I drive it like I stole it after driving like Mr nice guy in my company van all day.

I think I may have forgot to mention that my dak is also 4X4 as well.....tonight I checked tire pressure........it was 26.5 all the way around......I uped it to the recommended 35 lbs. Do you guys think that could have effected my MPG that negativly? Also I have noticed that the air bag light sometimes comes on in my instrument cluster and stays on while i drive. if i shut my engine off, and leave it off for a couple minutes...and then restart.....the light will go off and stay off...until it happens again (maybe 4-5 starts later) what might be causing this????? I know there is a sensor in the pass seat......is it going bad?

Tire pressures for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I run 38 psig in my 245/16's, and mine is a 2004 QC 4x4 3.55 gears reg diff auto 5spd

Like I said earlier, don't be afraid to get in the throttle. Jack-rabbit starts or wide-open throttle will suck the gas, put I get low 20's mpg cruising at 70 mph.

Get in the high teens mpg around town.

Don't know about your air bag light.
