The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times this review shows for the 4.7 & 5.9 are pathetic. I haven't gotten my 02 Dak CC 4.7/Auto yet (ordered it a couple weeks ago... should have it in about 3 weeks give or take)... please tell me I can expect better performance than this!!!

a friend of mine has a 2000 RT CC with a cap, and he hasn't done any mods that I know of and he ran a 15.6 1/4 mile time at Grand Bend Motorplex. I think I could be in the 15s with my 4.7. Our other buddy in a sonoma ran 16s.....that review is way out of whack!!

Looks like these people got right was the crappy gas milage.

I think Grandpa was driving for the 1/4 mile times.

My 4x4 4.7l QC is quicker then there 18 sec. Hehe.. even after my lift I'd put $$ on it that it's faster then 18.

Someone needs to email that idiot. I am not sure where he is getting his Numbers from but they are WAY off. I can tell you that when my 4.7 QC Auto was stock it would do 0-60 in the mid 7 second range. Most REAL sites that have acutually tested the 5.9 on the track came up with 0-60 times in the mid 6's , I will not even bother with his quarter mile times since I think his info is made up.

Don't belive everything you read. He drives a Toyota I am sure.

You'd think this guy would have noticed that the timeslip difference between the 3.9L V6 and the 5.9L V8 was only .8 seconds for a difference of 70hp and 110tq (not to mention the gear ratios/etc for the R/T)

What makes this worse is that they list this on their page which really really makes me wonder...

"To test acceleration, braking, and roadholding, Heraud's testers use the industry-standard Vericom 2000 testing equipment to achieve accurate, reliable, and consistent results. Performance tests are run in two directions to compensate for any wind effects. For interior sound levels, they use a professional sound meter, while for fuel consumption, a fuel flow meter is employed."

Now, I have never used a Vericom 2000 , but I have used G-tech, and Also have used a $10 stop watch. Maybe this is all a typo, or some kind of computer error. I think its misleading. I doubt that site would keep someone (Who is really intrested in buying a Dakota) from buying a truck. I am sure tests can very depending on conditions, driver temp. and so on. But, If they are going to print facts they need to get them straight.

Considering Car and Driver tested a QC 4.7+5 speed and pulled down 16.0 in the 1/4 and 7.0 to 60, and the R/T's consistently test faster (low 15's in the 1/4 and low 6's to 60).

This forces me to conclude that the tested Dakotas were towing Tacomas.

0-60 was 6.8 though :^\ a little lacking I thought, but I was happy with what it could do in the quarter stock... of course stock isnt what counts in the end anyhow :P.

Man sometimes having the 5.2l makes all my experience feel so irrelevant. :sigh:

Nonetheless, My truck (98 RC 5.2l 5sp 3:92) ran a best of 15.695 at Grandbend MP last year and I had only been driving 5spd for about a year and a half. The only mods I am aware of on the truck at that time were 180 stat and a stock replacement Flowmaster. It still had a paper element in the stock airbox.

Middy.

Hey nothing wrong with the 5.2... Great engine. The nice thing about people not knowing a whole lot about a certain engine is that it makes it all the more interesting here'ing about somebody with one and what it is capable of.

Don't worry about people not wanting to buy a Dakota because of these articles, all they have to do is drive one off the lot and let it kick them in the ass one time...SOLD! That's what happened to me!

The thing is they SAY they use a Vericom to test times but they listed a crapload of different trucks. In the write up though, they talk about their test truck in the singular. So they really only had 1 truck, maybe it was a 4x4 v-8 QC automatic, and just tried to estimate what the others would run. They didn't actually test all those trucks. Carpoint is a great place to check pricing with options, but that's about all I've ever found of worth there.
