Hey guys, whats up? I've got a 1994 dakota sport 4x4 that blew the diff completely.. I am just wondering what it would take to wedge a 9.25 from a newer dakota underneath of it??? I'm afraid I'm going to break another 8 1/4" and I like the thouhgt of having a sway-bar!

Thanks a ton guys

Mark

I cant tell you for sure if it is going to fit but I can help you find out. Measure your diff with the axles installed and a new one, flange to flange. That should be within 1/2 inch any more than that could cause tire rubbing. Measure from spring perch to spring perch alignment peg center to center. This measurement needs to be right on exactly. If it is not then the perches will need to be BOTH moved and some welding is needed. Shock mounts need to line up too. Get the U-Joint off the new truck so you can match up a new joint if it is different than the one your truck uses. Parking brake cables should not be a problem, brake lines could be if they are not located in the same area but a little tubing and some bending can fix that (remember to double flare ALL new flares of brake lines). The last thing you will need to consider for the rear end alone is the # of teeth on the antilock brake sensor. This is important for the system to function properly.

Other things to consider. Your speed sensor for both the engine and the speedo. Also you may need to recalibrate your tranny(auto) and engine to accept a different gear ratio without throwing engine codes at you.

Just some food for thought

well I was kinda hoping someone had the perch measurements for a new style diff.. Anyone?
The 8.25 is a piece of junk any time I've ever seen one! I'm really hoping I don't have to cut and weld but I also don't want to buy a new diff if it won't fit!

Okay so I'd have to narrow the perches.. I don't suppose the wider track width would hurt anything?

Well, if the tires stick out beyond the fenders, they can be damaged by the fenders. This is also illegal in some states.
Did you measure the perches before deciding they'd have to be narrowed ? Info I gave you was about total width of the rear. The perches may well be wider, and that is likely - but they could be the same, or narrower too. It would be best to measure, or get specs, before jumping to conclusions.
