Subject: tranny hitting the floor in 4X4
IP: Logged

Message:
hey i have a 97 4x4 5.2L and when i put it in 4x4 it makes this nasty sound like the tranny is either falling out or hitting the floor of the truck ( it actually moves the center console when it does this. Do you guys think it might be the tranny mounts? I havent looked under it yet, its at the shop right now. thanks

sometimes when a u-joint is bad it can make that sound, but if its movin' stuff as bad as you say it may be the tranny or motor mount

after a new tranny mount and a wheel bearing and both upper and lower ball joints on both sides, i should have her back on the road. I took a look under it lastnight and found the tranny mount was broke right along a weld. Is this a comon thing ?

A broken trans mount is not a common problem. Usually the rubber wears out in the mount instead.
