My truck runs fine most of the time, however every once and a while it completely dies, its not the battery! Ive taken it to 3 shops and they have all run full diagnostics on it and cannot come up with anything if anyone has absolutely any remote idea of whats goin on please reply. ps. when it dies and I turn my key to accessory my dashboard lights up with all trouble icons and none of my guages work and it wont start for about an hour.

This might be a dumb question, but does it have an aftermarket security (or remote start) system? Does it have a factory security system? There may be some sort of fuel/ignition/starter kill engaged due to a bad ground to connection. Someone out there probably knows a lot more about it than myself.

Good luck with it,

Jay

dddddd, they didn't use EGR's between '96 & '04.
sounds like an electrical problem.

I agree, "ddddd" posted that as the fix for several different posters yesterday. Maybe he got a little carried away, happy he found a solution to his own problem ?
Bryce - how about a little more info ? I note you say it won't start; but you haven't mentioned if it will turn over or not.

Yea it is turning over fine and I had my charger and alternator checked, and thats all good. I was thinking it could be fuel system related untill I turn my key to accessory and my dashboard lights up with trouble lights and my gas guage doesnt work. It also makes a weird sound like its taking in a lot of air right before it stalls out. I was thinking of replacing my K&N back to stock and running it for a while just to see. I threw out the original bolts I need to remount my original intake. so i gotta go buy a few different sizes to match it up. Other than that I'm pretty much out of ideas..

You still haven't answered my quesiton about any possible security systems that may be malfunctioning. I have heard that a lot of those systems will not allow the fuel pump to run for an hour after it has been "tripped".

sounds like an ecu problem.
do the gauges sweep back and forths or just not work at all.
or do you have an aftermarket steroe system with an amp hooked up.
if you don't hook up the power line right it'll cause a loose poweer to the motor.
it did it in mine it had enough to turn gauges and lights on but not the motor

I have a 99 5.2L and i have sought of the same problem. i notice in the winter. if i don't let me truck warm up for about 15-20mins it will stall. the other day going to work i didn't let it warm up and it felt like if i took my foot of the gas it would stall. i don't know if it could be the crank sensor, or air control sensor. i do have a factory door lock & alarm system.

chris - Could be a low voltage problem. Have you ruled out the battery, as Bryce did ? Probably one of the most common causes of what you describe.

I have found another piece to the puzzle that is my truck. My truck stalled out on me the other day after about 5 min of driving. I noticed when I tried to start it all I heard was a clicking sound very fast. I opened my hood and found that my relay box was making the noise, when I took out the engine relay and the fuel pump relay the noise stopped. I ordered in new relays from dodge, picked them up the next day and put them in. I drove my truck for about 20 min after that and it stalled again on me. I noticed once I pulled over that while the truck was wavering between stalling and running that the relays were clicking over. Everytime the truck would start to die i could hear a click and then it would start up again and I would hear another click. Its like there is something wrong with the fuel system in the computer or something. I am super confused.
