You can start with custom engine mounts. Examine the 318 mounts, then look at the 360. You'll see what I mean. Then you can have the old 360's heads drilled to accept the Magnum intake, or include the 318 Magnum heads in the swap. Will it run? Yeah, but not as good as it could with the 360 stuff. Despite going roller cam, and changing the rocker ratio, the gross cam specs for LA 360's and Magnum 360's are essentially identical.

Oooops, I forgot about the Magnum's crank sensor. The older LA blocks don't have this, so you'll need to fab something, or graft an aftermarket unit onto your setup.

Yeah, Mag for Mag swap is much easier. Get the computer for a 5.9 and it's a bolt-in swap on the engine. Same bolt pattern all the way around. One thing you will need is the external balance weight for the 5.9. Traditionally, the 5.9 carried an external balance weight on the torque converter. In 1996, Dodge changed this. The balance weight on '96 and newer models is on the flexplate. Get a 1996 or newer model flexplate for 5.9 or take your 5.2 unit and have the weights added by a reputable machine shop. Probably cheaper and easier to just order one from Dodge. You can, if you want to, use your existing torque converter. If it's working fine, and you're using the same tranny, that'll do, but if you're adding a new tranny, definitely get a new converter.

I just put a new Dodge crate 5.9 in my 1998 sport that had a 5.2. Bought a flex plate and torque converter for the 5.9 because of the weights are different for the 5.9. Everything else bolted right up. I did use the 5.2 PCM but I had it flashed with better fuel curves. It will run with the 5.2 PCM but it just doesn't have power of a custom flash. You have to be careful replacing yours with a PCM from a 5.9. I did try one off a 1999 5.9 RT but in 1999 there were two upstream O2 sensors so it constantly tripped the check engine light as that unit looked for the O2 sensors. In early 1998 there were only two 02 sensors. The AC and transmission all works fine. The crate motor has a bigger cam and better heads so I would still like to find a better flash or a performance PCM for better performance.
