Subject: 2003 quad - emerg brake issues

Message:
I have an 03 QC 4.7 and the truck has been really good other than a few issues i have been experiencing lately. First, i was left stranded in the bush the other day because the emerg brake (adhesive holding the pad) let go and the pad fell into the housing. when i tried to drive, the pad broke apart and locked the wheel up. i had to have the truck brought out of the bush on a flatbed....needless to say i was pi$$ed off. Dodge says that this is not covered under warranty because it is a wear and tear item. That's B.S because i never use the emerg brake... and it wasn't a wear and tear issue. The adhesive let go - factory problem. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem and did your warranty cover the repairs? I bought the extra "gold plan" warranty and appears that it doesn't mean $hit.
thx

Also, sometimes it idles up and down and the odd time the motor will die when i shift into park or reverse. my check engine light comes on for a while and then goes off (this has been happenin for over a year). I'm sure there are threads on this, but if anyone has a quick suggestion, it would be much appreciated.

last thing: i want to upgrade my tires for better off road performance. what are the largest size tires i can fit under the truck? It currently rides on 265 70R 16 (31's?)

thx all!!! have a good new year!

Idle problem sounds like a dirty IAC, or bad TPS - both are on the TB. Don't twist the plunger when cleaning IAC. First I've heard of the parking brake issue. I agree, sounds more like a quality control failure than a wear issue.

Tim, before 'the adhesive holding the pad' broke
and jammed the parts of the drum, did you by chance
drive thru some deep water
and parked your truck soon after while in below freezing weather?

A few years ago on a hunting trip, something similar happened to me, my Blazer's rear shoes/drums froze solid after off-roading thru some water and parking it overnight at the camp.

Since I was already in 4-Low (& 350 CI)
it didn't take too much to get moving again
but the brake shoes got severely damaged
and had to be replaced.

No; the plow is for slow Kias, and bicyclists riding 2 wide in spandex ;-)

you forgot "old ladies". lol.. this has been a good year for snow (atleast in Ontario) so your kota must be getting a good work out. I got to use my father-in-law's F250 for plowing last year. I thought it would be good, but kinda sucked. Too light in the rear end and would just spin the tires when trying to push thru deep drifts. Well that may have been my fault for trying to go thru 6ft snow drifts across the road...ha It was fun trying to anyway.
