The other day I was slowing to a stop about four cars back from a light. Just creeping really, and then it turned green and people started to move. As I just barely started to accelerate some moron ran across the street in front of me. I nailed the brakes and stopped. It stalled the truck, and felt exactly like letting the clutch out without giving it gas. The first shift after I restarted the truck was extremely, and I do mean extremely, hard. After that everything went back to normal. I have never had an auto trans act like this before, and just wondered if anyone else had had this happen. Thanks

Not sure it's related to the auto trans - could be other explanations. It's well known that the idle memory is very sensitive to low voltage in our trucks, often loss of idle (stalling) is the first thing noticed when a battery is getting old. The PCM also controls things like the shifting, which could also be affected by voltage. When your rpms are low, as in your event, the alternator isn't putting out much charge - couple that with a further demand for current when ABS may have been used in a panic stop, and that would be one possible cause for what you noticed.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

HCW, you probably forgot to push the clutch in!

What the Kow man said sounds like the plausible explantion.
