I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4, 5.9, auto, 165K miles. The tranny is acting up and I found a replacement. I have yet to purchase it, not knowing if it will work right. It's from a 1998 RAM 1500 4x4, 5.9 auto, 38K miles. Are there any differences in the wiring for the lock-up, overdrive? Or will this be an easy Plug-and-Play tranny swap? Thanks in advance for any input.

should be the same trans but make sure and if it is then you shouldnt have any probs

Thanks for the input. After reading Hanes manuals for both trucks, it looks like it will work. I'll post the outcome.

yes let us know how it goes and how hard it was. but before you do this, consider putting in some upgraded trans parts these transmissions are known to suck up a lot of power. more than the 4.7s at least.

well, I purchased the tranny, torque converter, and transfer case with 38K on it. It'll be about 6 weeks before I'm ready to install it (unless mine takes a crap earlier). What type of upgrades would you guys suggest while I have it on the bench? Oh, it's a 46RE

go to a trans shop and ask them to order you a upgrade kit and/or shift kit. unless you can find one online, but theyll know much more about that.
