When I'm traveling and get just below 1/2 tank, the engine dies. Would this be a pick-up tube problem or fuel gauge?

How many miles do you have at 1/2 tank? Using your mileage, figure how many gallon are missing from the tank. If you have used most of your gas, then you have a sending unit problem.
If you truly do still have a 1/2 tank, then you may have a pickup issue.
