I rive on a curving road to get to work. The past 5 days I noticed that the steering was getting hard to turn at times. Every day becoming more noticable. I'm pretty preceptive, so even the smallest change would get my attention. As I would bear around a curve, then bring the steering wheel back to center (straight), it would feel hard to turn, almost like it was sticking. Any ideas on what I should check first, or even if it is safe to drive to work on Monday or if I should get it fixed first. It's a 2002 Dakota.
Thanks
Barry

I CAN HELP YOU!! Had the same problem with 2004 QC 4x4. Thought the pump was going.

However, it was the steering shaft U-joints. There are two of them between the steering box and the firewall. The top one is hard to see, up under the brake booster. Squirt them with some lube that will get into the joints and stay there.

It happens when I go over 40mph, around bends. My mechanic put penetrating oil on the steering shaft and it seemed to help for about a week, now it's starting to happen again. Almost like I lose power steering for a second.
Any other suggestions?

You need a thicker lube now. Something that will stay there. You may need to repeat after a few months.
