Hi every one I got a question for ya, I am getting a 95 318 for free cause it’s been sitting around campus in a shed and no longer turns over, as far as I can tell it has never been run. I am going to go through and rebuild it. Cause most likely the cylinder walls are rusted, but I am going to boar it .30 over and was planning on putting billet aluminum heads, an m1 intake, cam, rockers, ford 5.0 motor sport injectors and a Mopar performance computer. My question is what cam should I go with and any other suggestions would be nice because I am going to build this engine up and some days replace my V6 with it. So I got nothing but time.

that's great Adam. first things first. what vehicle are you going to use this in? hopefully a Dak. 2nd, what will said vehicle see as primary use? mudder, rockcrawler, strip, daily driver, towing, etc.... 3rd budget(if needed).

if you determine those 3 things first and you can build the engine to suit that purpose the best and be satisfied with what you've built.

O of coarse, it is going into my 93 4x4 Kota… um I have a good size budget as I am in no hurry and can slowly build it up. My v6 is running fine but its age is showing with how hard I run her... but it will be a daily driver, a lil towing, lil mudding (I ain't afraid to get her dirty) and a lil hot rodding/ showing off thrown in. I was just wondering what would be the best combo. I found some .40 over pistons, would they fit? Cause that would be one big engine!!! BIGGER = BETTER!

you won't get much with just a .040 overbore. plus that's probably a little much for the block.

now a good stroker kit with a .030" overbore will yield 390 cubes. now we're talkin'. a good RV cam for mudding, towing. maybe some Edelbrock Alum performer heads. give these guys: www.krcperformance.com a call or
www.hughesengines.com.

you need all the components to work together. and i mean all, like heads, cam, torque converter(if it's an auto), rear gears, etc.....

Does anybody know how comp cams thumpr cam is? And if so would it be a good combo with M1 2bbl intake and 2.02 non-ported R/T heads 1.5 rr F&B 52mm tb complete msd ignition and pcm? And also whats going to be good for the bottom end? stroker?

Just looking at the Thumpr specs makes me cringe. You're gonna need some custom programming to make that sucker work. Looks like it would sound fantastic, however.

Ya kinda what I thought to when I first seen thoughs specs. Would definetly compliment my gibson exhaust with no cat that already sounds great! Why would a special programing be needed? Does it make a huge difference vs. just programming a performance cam in in general? And what I meant was with this setup is a 390 stroker a good idea? Thanks

The Thumpr cam isn't gonna generate a lot of vacuum. Typical computers like nice smooth idling, high vacuum cams to keep MAP sensors happy. Externally programmed computers and the use of wide ratio O2 sensors makes it possible for proper MPI function. The Mopar Performance computer tolerates lower vacuum levels, but really hot cams require even more help in the form of custom data maps to operate with the lower vacuum, etc. The larger the engine, the more vacuum it will generate under a given situation, with a given setup, so a stroker would be a good thing.

If you want more engine stroke it out to a 390. Also, forget the aluminum heads, go with the cast R/T small valve heads and just do a little bowl blending. If you go with large valve heads you'll have to notch the tops of the cylinder bores for the valves to open without a clearance problem.

If you're worried about the small valve R/T heads doing the trick just read this. artivle.

Actually, the 318's 3.91" bore can handle even a 2.08" intake valve without notching the bores because the valves open on the centerline of the bore.

i believe the std 5.2 "large" intake valve is 2.02" and should flow plenty for what you need.

Yes, 2.02" is plenty, just addressing the point on clearances. 2.08" is a total effort thing best reserved for racing.
