5.2 wasn't offered in 01 had to be a 3.9, or a 5.9.

I would say that he probably has the 5.9. Because I thought that the Intake on the 4.7s did not have a gasket? I thought that they just had like some o-rings.

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

You are right Shoe the 4.7s do have rubber o-ring type seals for the intake.

And moparornocar if you think 85,000 was bad for the intake gaskets to go bad, you would hate mine. I had to replace mine at 59,000 because it had a horrible spark knock it was leaking so bad. Also the intake gaskets aren't the only thing that could cause some oil loss over 3k miles, could be rings or valve stem seals.

At any rate don't blame Dodge, sorry to say its just bad luck and could happen to any car. Like novaDAK said earlier what other car company will sell you a compact truck with a V8! You should get a 4.7 Dakota they don't have the same type intake gasket setup. I love mine.:)

hey again.....
update.....after leaving truck with dealer for a day he has come to a reccomendation of the valve stem seals.......uhgggggg...he says the intake gasket apppears to be still holding up according to there suction tests etc etc....and after it sat overnight and then was started it did puff a bit of blueish smoke on initial startup...i saw that....he feels that its not the rings let alone if it was they reccomend trading it in...uhggggg........he did say that that some places could charge me for the rings and that would replace all the above anyways but he feels its the valve stem seals......wish me luck!!
Thanks for alll the help ....

You should be happy it's just the valve seals and not the rings ! That's the classic symptom, smoke on start up - properly diagnosed, there's no need to rely on luck. That's not a Dodge problem either, worst valve seals I ever had were on a '69 Pontiac. Can happen with anything.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Yeah thats a big prob with the Mitsubishi 3.0 V6 that chrysler used to use in the vans and cars of the late 80s and early 90s. I had a LeBaron that had seals that were on their way out every morning I had a blue cloud follow me around for a mile or so.
