What would you all recommend for a tune up of a '01 4.7L with 125K on it? Assuming nothing has been done previously. Also, my engine is pretty dirty I've been wanting to wash it...do I need to cover any of the electronics, or do the weather pack connectors do their job?

I've cleaned my engine several times in the last 110k miles. Makes sense as long as you take certain precautions. I have an Airaid so I remove and cover the airhat intake. I then wet the painted surfaces--fenders, firewall/cowl area and around radiator; then I spray purple cleaner on all dirty areas avoiding electronics, brushing in the cleaner where I need to and can. After it sokes in. I use my pressure washer on low to rinse down the whole front of the truck, again not spraying directly on electrical components or the drive belt. Sorry if I was too detailed.

as a precaution, remove the serpentine belt
before any type of cleaner or degreaser is
sprayed onto the engine.

If not, chance of noisy belt after

My 120k mile tune up was this.

Engine flush with oil cleaner, change oil afterwards. Drop your oil pan and check for sludge, regasket and do your oil change.

Coolant system flush, and refill.

Serpentine belt replacement, can be done in 10 min or less without much knucklebusting.

Full brake job, rotors/drums pads and caliper inspection.

Alignment, should be done every 40k miles.

Transmission fluid change, DO NOT FLUSH, just a fluid swap.

Rear Diff fluid change, I recommend royal purple.

Check your sway bar bushings, front and rear, check ball joints, check control arms, basically anything suspension related.

If you haven't changed your shocks, change them while doing your suspension check, every 60k miles is a good standard.

Replace your air filter, and break down your intake, and clean your throttle body.

Be sure to dump a bottle of STP fuel system cleaner every 5000-6000 miles into your tank.

Check your vacuum lines, and any rubber hoses under the hood for deteoration. By 125k miles, most rubber will begin to split and cause problems. This includes your radiator hoses.

You may want to purge your AC system, and refill with a new coolant with a oil charge, a $14 expense at any auto parts shop, includes the guage and hose attachments.

For info on how to do this all yourself and save hundreds of bucks, not to mention learn something about your truck, pick up a chiltons manual, or Haynes, which has all the photos and info you need.

Hope this helps, sorry about the length.

I have 80,000 on my 2007 but not sure if anything was
done at 60,000. What should I be changing at those
times
