 Subject: 96 dodge dokota tranny shift in and out

When I step on it the tranny shifts down then start shifting up and down really fast,It can't deside to shift down or not. It will shift back up and stop spazzing out if I let up on it, Some times it wont shift into 3 just on a normal acceleration for a while. Do you have any thoughts. Thanks in advance.
