I've got a '93 Dakota that was in a crash. It still ran after it smashed the front end on the left side, so I'm thinking it still can.

Unfortunately now it doesn't... I can get it started, but only by shorting out the starter motor and putting gas directly in the motor. After it eats up the gas (5-10 seconds), it stops.

I'm thinking fuel pump, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has any other ideas, or things I should be looking for. I'm a newbie to trucks & mechanics, so any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Thanks Curly! I checked the pressure last night, but got nothin'. So I took the gas tank out and will try and test the voltage.

All too famous under hood wire splice you say? How does one go about finding/checking that? I think I remember reading a post about it so I'll look it up.

Thanks again!

Some vehicles have a fuel shutdown that can activate in a crash, with a reset - but not sure if yours has that or not.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Thanks Kowalski,

I've read that too, but I haven't been able to find out if this year/model has one. :( I've heard that some are under the driver's seat so I'll have to take a look next week and see if I can find anything.

Any chance you might know how to test for voltage at the fuel pump? ie: which pins??

Thanks!
