I dont know why this is but whenever I clean my K&N air filter and put it back into my truck I get a check engine light. I pull the codes and nothing is stored, I start the engine 10-15 times (I didnt count) and the light goes off or I disconnect the battery and touch the +/- together to discharge the caps in the puter and it will go out. I dont hear any difference in my engine, everything runs just fine but this is a little annoying. Any clues as to what is going on?

Oh and this does not happen on my '02 Durango with the same engine.

That is just it the light is on and the code reader comes up only with the engine not running code, and end report code nothing else. I reset the puter last night and got about 20 miles before it came on again. I think I may need to have the code reader at my side and read the codes soon as they happen rather than wait.

Starting in '00, key on off on off on (not start) sets the code in the odometer window, then ends with "pdone". Might not need the code reader, unless they changed that before '04.

I got my hands on a quality reader tonight (not a blinking light one) and had the codes read. The code that popped was P0441 EVAP Emission Control system Purge Flow Fault. Right now I have really low fuel level (filling up tonight) but this code poped at 1/2 tank. There has also been some nice hot weather around here to increase the evap pressure in my tank. Do any of you know where the evap seleniod is for this? I dont have a repair manual for this truck yet.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip on the codes Kowalski. I was waiting for the CE light to blink and I was not even paying attention to the odo. Yes in '04 the odo gives the codes and that too came up with the same code. I looked around the truck as well and found the charcoal canister and purge valve, it is under the passenger seat. I had one of the hoses kinked limiting or blocking the vapor flow. I moved the stuff around a little and got the kink out. I hope that solves my problem, tho I cant figure out why I get codes when I clean my air filter.

ok you said that it happen when you clean the k&n filter?.. well 9 out of 10 times when this happens the extra oil from the kn filter gets onto your maf senser and this sets a code bc since the oil is on your maf senser it throws off the parameters and it messes with your fuel trim. you might have to clean your maf senser.

Brian thanks for the tip on the MAF sensor I will look into that it sounds like that could be the problem. I do tend to get a good amount of oil on the filters when I reoil them. I will keep ya all posted

don't forget autozone and advance will read codes for you. They use the one they sell, the actron one.
