 Subject: 2001 4.7 Engine Fault Code.

My buddy bought a 2001 4.7 5-speed Dakota. This thing is awesome. I was really impressed with it. Anyway, it is pulling fault code P0601. I looked it up, but it did not mean sh!t to me. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

P0601-INTERNAL MEMORY CHECKSUM INVALID
When Monitored: With the ignition on.
Set Condition: Internal checksum for software failed, does not match calculated value.
Repair:
Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module per Service Information.
Something fell into the "bit bucket". The PCM's program no longer passes an internal check, which runs continuously, to verify the PCM program is still valid. A checksum error indicates that it is not.

I know that they used a Superchips Programmer on it. When I tried to hook it up again to tune it, that is what it also said. So, basically it needs a new computer?

You shouldnt need a new computer unless something is really messed up. I would guess there is something wrong with the software in the computer. Could be the superchips program is corrupt or the data isnt making it to the computer correctly. Worst comes to worst you could have the dealer reflash it for you.

Maybe not a new computer, but a trip to the service dept for a program reload. That will put it back to baseline, anyway.

The guy said that it would not run right without the superchips program. Something about the cam swap on it. I do not know if this is true or not. I will contact both the Dodge dealership and Superchips about this.
