Ok folks, I'm stumped. I have a 01 quad 4x4 Dak and the 4x4 dash lights went out and it does not engage the 4x4 at all. Also, the emergency brake Light on the dash does not come on when the brake is engaged. I understand that the 4x4 and the brake light are BOTH controlled by a programable cluster (computer). BUT the DEALER wants 76$ to roll into the shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They absolutly will not take the info from the place I got it inspected, and even argued with me about just looking before putting it on their( already paid for many times over) analysis system. I'm not stupid about these things, I have checked all the fuses and also dont "see" any loose connections. If anyone can help, PLEASE it is badly needed. Oh and by the way, the 4x4 stopped engaging after I got the diff changet a Jiffy Lube along with an oil change, never had trouble before with those folks. She has 96000 k on her and otherwise is totally PRIME!!!!!

On the 4X4 lights, do you mean the one by the switch itself?

Yeah the lights on the dash switch itself, but I finally broke down and took it to a dealer, one that came with much better reccommendations. they called and told me it is the computer modules( no duh!!!!!!!) in fact two of them!!!! and 1100 bucks later I should be ready to roll.... they should be calling me today, monday. Sucks but what ya gonna do.
they have me by the short hairs so to speak.
Thanks though, I found alot of good info here otherwise.

Remember a junkyard is always another option. Seems rare to have any computers go bad let alone 2 at one time.
