I have a 2002 4.7 dakota. I thought recently I had an exhuast leak, been hearing a lot of ticking at startup and at acceleration in the morning.

Yesterday I saw the purge soloniod by the battery shaking in time with what I thought was an exhaust leak. I leaned down, and i can hear the ticking comeing from the purge soloniod.

Does this mean the soloniod has went bad, or is there something causing it to tick and shake.

I have a friend that works in dodge dealership and he said that they sell a load of the purge solonoids, so i was hopign maybe someone else had the same problem I had.

OH yeah, today I got a P0456 code, not the gascap--it's a few months old, so Im thinking more and more that the soloniod is bad.

Mine did this but was mounted on the fire wall. I couldn't hear mine under the hood Only in the drivers seat. I went to the dealer and talked with the mechanic about it. He said it was normal and about half of them did this. Also said the 99 was the last year they was mounted on the fire wall moving it behind the battery so you wouldn't hear it. Said they cost 50 bucks and there was a 50/50 chance the new one would do the ticking also if not right away, in time. I got to messing with it and discovered putting a sticky sided piece of Velcro between it and the fire wall, which was a tight fit, it solved the problem. Maybe yours can be solved doing something simular.
