Subject: K&N FIPK - did it mess up my computer?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just put in a K&N FIPK into my 01 R/T.... I also added a tonneau cover. I thought this would really help my fuel mileage (I was previously getting around 10.5 MPG according to the console computer. At first the MPG went up to around 12.3, but then things started acting strange - MPG went down to 6.4!! And I know this isn\'t an accurate read because I was still getting around 210 miles off of a tank (which is what I was getting when it used to list 10.5 MPG). I unhooked the battery for a day hoping that I could reset the console computer.... didn't do any good... I am driving around and the thing is telling me that I am getting 6 something miles a gallon, which I know isn't correct.
Has anyone else who put in a K&N FIPK and has the console computer experienced this? I am assuming that it is possible that the difference in airflow is somehow messing up the computer's estimations? Or could it just be my computer?

Manually check your mpg and see what it actually is.

When I installed my K&N, I did not see any drastic change in the MPG.

My overhead shows I'm getting 12.5 mpg on my 5.9 QC and I have a HEAVY foot.

No....Changing your intake will not have any effect with the overhead computer.

For future reference, to reset your PCM, disconnect the negative battery cable. Hop in the truck and turn the ignition to Start for 20 seconds. Hook the battery back up and you're done.
