what do you guys think of the 2008 dakota coming out? 290 hp, "ported heads", higher compression, lighter pistons and connecting rods, and suppose to get better mileage because of design. also 16 spark plugs like the hemi!

I'll reserve judgement until I see if it has a body style that's easier on the eye than the current one. all the power in the world won't get me into an ugly truck.

The "new" look is OK. Doesn't gag me, but doesn't grab me, either. Same with the interior - I'm not impressed.
"The gauges have been tweaked." What does that mean?
320 ft/lbs. I have 345 now, so......
I have to agree with the Edmonds review. Dodge better have something up it's sleeve for the near future if they want to be competative. Don't get me wrong, the 2008 Dakota isn't a bad truck. It's a darn fine truck. But so is my '01 Dakota; and it's paid for.
About the only thing that would bring me back to the dealer would be a small turbo diesel.

i heard somewhere that in 08 or 09 that there was a inline 6 cylinder Cummins coming to the Dakota. and not to be a troll but if the Dakota an the Durango are built off the same frame then why did the durango get a Hemi and not the Dakota. but i did like that Dakota Warrior Concept that they had a while ago!!

The newer dakotas and durangos are not on the same frame. The durango is wider, that's how they fit the Hemi in there.
The durango is designed to compete in the full size SUV market, and the Dakota in the mid/small sized pick up market.

well i'm thinking of getting one of these when they come out. 290 hp out of our 4.7 don't sound bad.
however, the worst news would be a week after buying it, dodge announcing they're putting a hemi in!

it was a cummins v-6 for the dakota/durango
v-8 cummins for the 1500
the HD will still have the 6.7 Inline 6
you really think an inline 6 will fit in a dakota?

Yea im not a big fan of the Electronic throttle control either but those hp/tq numbers look pretty good. Im curious if they used stronger internals or just pushed what they had in there. I would love it if they beefed it up a bit. Maybe even "gasp" some forged pistons.
