1993 v8 cc auto 4x4.

It seems like im getting about 10 mpg around town and what not. this truck should be getting around 14mpg in town not 10. any reasons? seems to be getting good power maybe it should be getting more.
New 02
New plugs (champion truck plugs gapped at .035)
New coil
New wires
recent oil change.
newer tps.
K&N air filter oftenly cleaned.

If anyone knows whats the deal, that would be nice as im gonna be getting out of the navy soon and driving 3000 miles to get home. thanks.

have your checked tire inflation and alignment? those can both play a big part in mileage.

are some good pages for you to read over
http://autorepair.about.com/od/generalinfo/l/bldef165.htm

and one more

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_symptoms_of_a_stuck_EGR_valve

i know when my EGR valve went bad it took awhile
and i mean a few months of trouble before the light came on
(pinged bad under load even with colder plugs & real poor MPG's even with new O2 sensor and complete tune up)

any way best of luck

I was wondering the same thing, as the LA doesn't use a plenum gasket. Did the EGR valve solve your milage problem ? I hope you don't mind if I jump in with an EGR question while its being discussed here. I've got some EGR related codes on a brand x '95 300 six. When I pulled the EGR, it will open with suction on the vacuum fitting. Passages appear clear, so I'm thinking the problem is the small electronic control that's supposed to vary how much exhaust gas is recirculated. Can I assume the valve is okay if it opens with suction ? Or is it likely to be out of spec ? Seems to run fine. Codes are EGR opening not detected, and a related circuit is above max voltage. Thanks for any help.

Kowalski if your getting the code for the EGR
try cleaning it again and clean the passages in the intake
reset the pcm
if you get the code again
just replace it
in all honesty i have noticed a huge differance in my truck and sorry i never did it sooner

i did alot of reading on the egr valves
and for the most part they start do die off after 50,000 miles (will see a drop in MPG's and performance) not to mention crummy idle and some time even stalling
that only gets worst from there on

Did you reset the computer after installling the O2 sensor? If not, it'll still run like the old one is in there.

jay i would
especially if you have the EGR with the electric sensor

even if not i would think still a good idea to reset it (pcm) otherwise it will still store codes/faults

and resetting the PCM is real easy
