Subject: HEMI Kits and the 06 Dakota

I was just wondering if anyone had looked into the possibility of putting the 5.7L 360hp HEMI crate engine into the 05/06/07 Dakota and if they had any cost estimates on that. Personally I love the idea of replacing my 4.7 HO with a HEMI. Any help would be appreciated.

The distance between the frame rails of the '05-up Daks are too narrow for the 5.7 HEMI. D-C missed a huge opportunity by excluding the 5.7. Dakota sales are down 26%.

01Motorsport,
I never checked, but you would think the Dakota and the Durango would have the same spacing between the frame rails. Why would they make them different? That adds cost to manufacturing. The more shared parts between models the lower the manufacturing cost.......

No wonder they are loosing money. They can't even get the simple things right. They have basically done to the Dakota what Mitsu did to the Eclipse.

I had been thinking about replacing my 4.7l in my 05 with a 5.7l HEMI engine, and talked to my service rep at the dealer. He said technically it is possible to fit the HEMI inside of a dakota. We didn't go into detail about it but he told me the only thing I'd have against me are the smog laws in CA, and everything would have to be perfect smog-wise for the engine. I should go back and see if I can get more information and measurements to better look into it.
