Having a tough time finding a Cat. Converter to match my truck other than Mopar's $530 version. Magnaflow says they don't make a universal fit for my 2000 R/T 5.9 2WD, although Advance Autoparts actually sells Magnaflow's universal fit and claim it will work. Napa also claims theirs will work. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions. What I don't want to end up with is a converter that won't do the job of burning the emmisions as it was designed to do. Thanks in advance!

I am assuming you are talking about the new cat not being able to remove enough to pass emissions. Consider this. After market cats have to be government approved replacements. It appears your just looking for a standard replacement. There are HIGH FLOW CATS and these have no problem. If anything, you would have to buy a cat that was way to small. I do not think the guts would matter here either. But the in and out pipes could be to small to pass the exhaust freely. If you ever looked through a cat, it is like there was nothing there end for end other then a spider web looking material (free flowing). This is why cats have no effect on HP or torque . Bottom line. If they say it fits your application, You should be good to go. If in doubt, measure the pipes front and back plus the length and look if the cat flows straight through or if the pipe on one end is off set.

Thanks for that OBI03. Magnaflow's universal cat. converter will fit. It is 2 1/2" in and out. Later, after much frustration with conflicting information, I called and talked to a different tech at Magnaflow. This guy said their webpage application list is wrong and should include the 5.9L 2WD. The first guy I talked to didn't know what he was talking about. Or should I be kind and say he didn't have all the information? :)

Funny HOW a simple purchase can at times be made into a disaster by a unknowing sales person. especially when they tell a person things out of there head that is there best guess.

Your correct about that warranty. Millage wasn't mentioned so I just assumed he was beyond warranty.

I just had the cat replace on my '99, by the dealer, for free. There were a number of years with defective cats and the mileage didn't matter.

I had my third cat on my 01, 4.7 cut off, (still have the 2 pre cats, one to each header).

There was a fine mesh screen, whidh covered one end of this thing! I know that impeded some flow.

It has passed inspection hear Houston for over 3 years this way.
