I have my 02 dakota slammed with cut hotchkis lowering springs in the front and a 2" block in the rear, it's so low that the axle hits the frame when I hit really bit bumps. What should I do about the rear, I've heard of notching the frame, what kind of money am I looking at here?

Paying someone to do that will probably be expensive. Requires bed removal, bed modification, frame cutting, welding, and possbible relocation of whatever is attached to the frame in that area. I'd guess 20 - 30hrs at 70 per hour or so. More if you want the bed to be cleaned up so the frame notches are not sticking up unfinished into the pickup bed.

I say that if you are dead set on having a slamed pickup, buy yourself a welder and have at it. Just make sure you keep the frame straight. :)

Of course, you could just go the other route and lift it. ;-)

Switch to a 1" block in the rear. That should make it quit banging the frame. An added benefit is if you lift the fron an inch as well, it won't look so stupid.

If you want a low rider, buy a sports car.

I don't want a low rider, I want it to handle like a sports car, which it does by the way. I take it to drift events so it's as stiff and low as possible without being on airbags.

if you want good handling DO THE RESEARCH! 1st cutting springs with anything other than a cold saw f*cks with thier stiffness 2nd blocks cause wheel hop and loosen the leaf springs stiffness, and a 2" lowering in the back should not cause it to hit the frame unless you got somthing else lowering it more in the back, If you want a sports car upgrade to tubular control arms and custom bilstien coil over setup with probably a 3 or a 4-link out in the back again with coilovers and a track-bar then you can adjust hieght aswell as your springs arent all soft and may not hit your frame rail cause you lowered their effective spring rate, btw way to go on cutting what i assume were brand new stiff springs

they were hotchkis lowering springs, I know not to heat them up when I cut them because they'll get soft, I am running bilsteins and there is not any wheel hop what so ever I've got 2" blocks on top of hotchkis leaf springs, I know what I'm doing when it comes to suspension, I was just looking for a better ride quality.

the blcoks still loosen ths rping rate on your leafs read up on tuning a leafspring suspension the farther up the axle is the off the spring it will loosen your spring rate, idk how exactly it works but thats the fact of it, also if you knew your suspension you woulda just gotten new spindles to go with your springs its just plain stupid to cut springs exspcially if your going for performance try reading any performance books cutting your springs and using blocks is not remotely performance oriented its just stupid unless all you want is looks. so af far as you knwo abotu suspension= n00b

there is nothing wrong with cutting the springs, hotchkis has a really high spring rate, plus they were made for a 5.9 and i've got a 4.7 so they're even stiffer. Say what you want, the truck handles like a sports car, the only reason it was hitting the axle is because the U-bolts I had made were to fine threaded and the nuts kept backing off of them.
And as far as this forum goes, when somebody comes looking for help, you don't put them down and call them a noob, no matter what their problem is.

Then the only thing you need is U-bolts with coarser threads ? Never heard of that loosening problem before.
