Rolling back is normal. Mine does it also. As for the gas mileage stop complaining. You bought a 4000 lb + truck with a V8. You should have bought a Hyundai if you want mileage. Sorry to come down on you like that but I hate when people know they are going to buy a gas hog and then ask why is my truck eating so much gas.

How BAD is it? Bri makes the assumption that you are getting 16mpg and want 32mpg....

do a SEARCH on "gas" , "milage" or "mpg" and you will find all kinds of suggestions...

2001 4.7 w/ 3.55 gears and I went from an avg of 15mpg to 18mpg with a little investment.... ( And some self-control with the loud pedal)

I drive 36,000 a year and this equates to 400 less gallons- Therefore, I will have paid off the $200 tonneau and $160 Airintakz in one year.

I have heard that MPG is terrible during the first 5-10 thousand miles, also try to keep some self control with the gas pedal if you really want the best MPG. If I drive like a granny, I can get 19+

full tank.)

go back to the dealer and tell them you want
your money back, or, buy a freekin 3500 5.9 I6
turbo diesel Ram, gas mileage should be
much better.

15-18 MPG is mostly ON a highway, but this is often STOP and GO boston-metro traffic... I would say it is 70-30 mix of HWY-City

I love to hear the roar of the 360intakeZ and often run cruise control at 80 MPH if the highway is open... I also sit in traffic for 1 hour to cover 20 miles at night....

I consider myself a pretty agressive dirver, but am not MASHING the gas from light to light...

I get 350 miles out of a full tank ALMOST every time... I have the Quad Cab and I THINK the gas tank is a little bigger than the RC/CC though...

I have a Club Cab and the build sticker lists 22 Gallons, and the web site list 24 gallons for the Quad. I have never been able to put more than 17 in the tank. And at empty both the dash light comes on for low gas and the overhead console readout displays around 35 miles left. Are the sending units off for my truck or what? Never been anywhere near 22 gallons.

My 02 QC will give the empty warning with 33 miles left on the computer. Most all cars and trucks will have about 5 gallons in the tank when the gauges show empty. If the gauge is correct.

5 gallons? That's a lot. I have heard 30 miles when the light comes on, which coincides with my DTE read out. 30 miles or 1 gallon, that's what I have always witnessed. My old car had a 15 gallon tank and when the light came on you could put about 14 gallons in at fill up. I wish I could have the sender recalibrated. I have seen the float on some tanks and I guess you could monkey around with that to affect the sending units resistance. I may have to take the tank down within the month so I can look at it then. That will be very obvious if it has 5 gallons in it with empty on. At least its a plastic tank.
Thanks

in our trucks the 5 gallons reserve is there to cool the fuel pump. i would not recomend running your truck under the 5 gal reserve.

rolling back on a hill w/an auto trans is not normal, unless it is a very steep grade, your normal idle should hold the vehicle in place!

I get around 16 mpg, 4.7, auto, 3.55 gears. That's combined city/highway driving.
I also have never gotten more than 17 gallons in my tank, tho it's supposed to be 22 gal. Jontoad, that bit about cooling the fuel pump is why I love this site. I never would have known that otherwise!
