Message:
hi all i have a 2002 QC with the 4.7, 45RFE trans and 4X4. last week i droped the trans pan to change the fluid and filter and i noticed that there was an oil filter looking thing inside the trans. i looked like a silver spin on oil filter. i dont know much about trans work, just how to do the basic service to them, is that an internal filter or some part of the trans, if it is a filter should i have changed it when i did the service and are there any tricks to changing it thanks for all your help

Yup, there are 2 filters in the 45RFE/5-45RFE.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Its purpose is to filter the fluid that is returning from the "cooler circuit". The cooler circuit is external to the transmission, and includes the in-radiator ATF heat exchanger, and any transmission cooler you have in front of the a/c condenser.
While some manufacturers put this filter outside the transmission for easy maintenance, Dodge, for some stupid reason, put it inside.
The only access to it is by dropping the pan.

Both filters should be changed and ATF+4 fluid should be used.
