Subject: Buying Remanufactured Long Blocks.

I have been looking for both 318 and 360s to swap into my truck. How much is a resonable price? I have found long blocks for about 1000 to 1800 dollars. The 1000 dollar one needs rockers, lifters, and pushrods, and manifolds, distrubtor, valve covers and oil pan. The other ones come with the rockers, lifters, and pushrods, but nothing else. A junkyard around here has some used long blocks ranging from 70,000 miles to 100,000 miles. They are all for about the same price of 1000 dollars. I do not know what all they come with. I need to know. Thanks.

Oh yeah, there is a fully assembled 318 and NV3500 2WD for sell of Ebay for about 1000 bucks. I think that it has 70,000 miles.

I have had great luck using www.car-part.com to search for used engines amd other parts. Sometimes a motor shipped from another state is even reasonable. There are a lot of those motors out there. The salvage yard motors usually come complete from oil pan to throttle body... all manifolds, water pump, brackets, distrib., etc. That's a lot easier to swap in. And many come with at least 90 day warranty - some can be extended to 6months or a year.

Good luck,
Steve H.

The thing is that I would like to look at the motor before I bought it. I got burned doing that one time. Guy told me that the motor was in excellent shape. I got it and it looked like it had been in a fire. And sludge, you want to talk about a sludgy motor. I took the heads off and the cylinder walls were all scorn up. That thing would have blown up within no time.

Now the thing is, what would be the better motor to swap in? The 318 or the 360? I know that at least the NV3500 will hold up to a stock 318. I know that KRC has a TKO 5-speed hooked up to their 360. How much would that cost? I am really wanting a 5-speed. I love having fun in a manual truck, but I would get a automatic if that was my last resort.
