1. A new muffler will not add any power over a good stock part.

2. A new muffler will not make your V6 will sound like a V8. It may sound better to you, but it won't sound like a V8.

3. No matter what aftermarket muffler you install, it will not void the warrenty. Refer to the Moss-Magnusen Warrenty Act.

BTW, congrats on the new truck. Although I'm not keen on the styling, I think then engineering is a real improvement over previous models.

I wouldn't expect more HP from that mod unless you replace the y-pipe.

boB - why the comment about the 6 ? Nothing will make a 6 sound like an 8.
Did you notice he has the 4.7 v8 ?

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

On the '92 5.2 and the '01 4.7 that I currently own, my favorite muffler is the Flowmaster 70. The sound out the pipe exit is nearly the same as a 50 series, but the floorboard resonance is practically nill. Real easy to live with long term. I've got over 150K on my '01's 70, which is preceded by a Magnaflow y-pipe, hi-flow cat., then followed by 2 1/4" duals into 3" tips. One trick with the duals is a 15x6 "space-saver" spare from a '92 Dak.

Big A. Go with what you like and want. I was thinking about Flowmaster for my '03 Dak 4.7L, but decided to go with a full cat back system. I went with the Gibson swept side. I went with Gibson because they tune all of their exhaust systems to the truck it is being applied to. By tunning the exhaust to the truck model, they make it so the added sound you get it at the exhaust tip, that helps to keep the sound levels down in the cab of the truck. The sound is amazing, without the blattyness that most trucks get with Flowmasters (nothing against Flowmaster they are nice exhausts), but if I'm going to spend the money on an exhaust I want it to sound good all the time. The gains you will get from just a cat back system are minimal if at all, if you are looking to add Hp's consider adding aftermarket headers, couple those changes with a superchip tuner, and you will notice a big difference. For those of you out there that dissagree with me that is fine, what I have put here is my opinion (and my personal experience) and that is what the guy was asking for.

Because I'm a dope. I saw 06, and the brain was thinking V6. Oh, well. Bailiff, can we please strike that comment from the record?

I went with Magnaflow #15877, single in, dual out, 2.5 and 3 inch piping with 3.5 inch slash tips, all stainless steel, exiting out the rear.

AWESOME system. When you turn it on it 'clears its throat' and barks to life with a sudden snarl then settles down to a very smooth and quiet idle. You can barely tell the difference from inside, the interior noise levels stay very low. And when standing outside you notice the exhaust note is deeper but it doesn't shake the ground or anything while the truck is standing still.

Give it a little throttle and you get a nice, smooth growl. You know it's there and everybody else around you does too does but it's not obnoxious and it's still not widnow-rattling loud.

Floor it and it wails like a beast, smooth, deep, quality sound.

Perfect system if you want it loud only when you want to enjoy the loudness but queit when you're idling or cruising on a long trip. Not so good if you want the loudest of the loud though.

Here's what I did with my `05 Dakota.
http://www.onlineautorama.us/pages/flowmaster_exhaust_project01.htm

I went SI/DO at First and then a few weeks ago I went True Duals.

The Y-Pipe Sucks Azz We Have so I'd get rid of it, The Throttle Response is totally different without it.

Jim.
