my 2000 4.7 dak makes a ticking noise, on morning start up, "i do let the truck warm up", then after i get above 35 mph or so it gone. won't happen again maybe until the next morning. could this be a manifold leak, or a lifter? oil is changed timely matter.

To see if it is your manifold start it when it is cold and spray water on it, if it bubbles then it is the manifold. To see if it the lifters rev it up, if it dies down then it is the lifters. Sounds like lifters to me. If it is a slapping sound then it is a possibility that it is the timing chain. They tend to get slack in them.

probably an exhaust leak. check for any broken studs on the exhaust manifolds.

could be a valve lash adjuster. the 4.7 doesn't have lifters per say. what oil are you running? i believe 5w-30 is recommended for the 4.7.

i don't think there have been any complaints of noisy timng chains on the 4.7 either.

I'm with Daddio, they are famous for exhaust leaks. It will make a tapping sound that will sometimes seal off when it gets some heat in it and the metal expands.

Does it sound like one tick each time it fires or multiple clicks. Posibly a bad oil filter allowing the oil to drain down over night. Lifters will be noisy till the oil builds up again. FRAM filters or rebadged fram filters are great for doing this. Between this post and the others, one of them will be correct.

So many problems .... So little time
