I changed my tranny fluid/filter because i wanted synthetic in it and....
Let me start off by saying that dodge REALLY pissed me off when they put the exhaust DIRECTLY in the way of my tranny pan. What a BITCH it was doing a SIMPLE fluid/filter job. WOW. Im pretty mad about that.

Another thing. Noticed some chips in the pan. kinda like shavings, but not much. The fluid in my pan never got burnt, it always stayed red. However the thing does seem to shift weird. It likes to shift through the gears early. Like being in 3rd at 28mph or so. Ive adjusted the TV cable a few times, but that doesnt seem to help.
Any ideas?

i had the same problem you have to take down the Y pipe to chage and mine shifts gears real funky like that to and even if you mat it at 15 miles an hour it still doesn't downshift into first it even took off from a stop light in 2nd gear. i have the same truck it really makes you want a manual tranny. my advice would be try adjusting the bands if you haven't already (it's outlined in the hanes manual)

after you change the fluid the trannys acts weird for a couple hundred miles. i would adjust the bands or would have checked them while i hand the pan off. i would adjust the TV cable again too.

metal shavings in your pan is bad news and it's usually caused by something that's in the process of destroying itself but then again i'm not a transmission expert

How many miles you got on it? Some shavings are normal, chunks are not. I also have a 93 2wd never had any problems with it. If you aren't using Mopar ATF+3 you will have weird shifting problems.I changed mine and put in synthetic and had nothing but problems, kinda like what you have said.I changed back to ATF+3 and I haven't had any problems after that. I have 170,000 miles on my truck and I drive it very hard.Goodluck

well when you have gears in the pump that are turn against one another your gonna get metal shavings in the pan.... which is normal.... now if you got metal chunks in the pan that are like 1/8 of inch big or so then you got problems.... now most older trans arent designed for synthetic fluids.... best to use type 7176 or chrysler +3 fluid.... the synthetic additive really is just a slicker additive.... mainly designed for motor oil and gear oil.... unless the vehicle came from the factory with synthetic tranny fluid and called for fliud replacement of the synthetic brand then i was it cause the clutches that are designed for that additive....

I had kinda the same problem with my 91 that has the same trans with in means there are a few diff. but pretty much the same thing. I did everything that everyone else said and still had the problem. untill I cracked the valve body apart and found a passage with a little bitty ole chunk of mud/dirt/clutch whatever it was in it. cleaned the valve body real good and biggity biggity bam we were back in biz. The only thing i can figure is that it just limited line flow to much and made it act funny.

Ok i was running good shifting good ... and when i got to my destination... ATF was running out under the truck.

My cooler line had been spliced with a cheap looking hose ... And this hose split.... So I got a ride for a new hose and added fluid 3 Quarts... felt a slight slip and added two more quarts... slowly drove a few miles and added three more quarts of fluid...

After all this my shifting is real weak... And i drop the pan found some metal shavings... looks like about a half a teaspoon worth... And its not magnetic.

What could this be???

is my converter bad???
