Hell, I towed a jeep with my R/T. Of course it was a rolling load so not a lot of tongue weight but had no trouble towing it up a steep grade.

2002 R/T, No disrespect or anything and im not trying to be a jerk but im sure if it was just a little extra cash for the R/T most people would get it. The package is not to bad price wise but then you have to figure that 5.9s are terrible gas hogs and if your young insurance is not going to be very friendly. When you add them up its not as cheap as it might sound.

For some it maybe worth the extra cash but most people are just going to buy a K&N and call it a day, in which case you are going to be running the same 1/4 mile in a 4.7 as you would a 5.9

Nine out of ten R/Ts are slugs. With a hundred less cubes and barking the tires through the first three gears, I get the jump on a majority of them(and keep it). Between weight, milage, and insure., R/Ts are not that whoopy.

Hey RT, Went looking at other threads and found that you dumped a pot full of coins into intake manifold, exhaust, rocker arms and programer. It only got you a 13.9? Then you dumped a bottle of no2 and only netted a 12.9? The way you talk about chevys, plus the ego tape of your truck, I would say you are about 20. Life goes on without you -Bye.

2002 R/T, almost anybody could afford an R/T but some people like to spend money on other stuff. You see I like having my firebird, 27' sailboat, 2 jetskis, 60' xbr tv and still having coin to go to the bar and down to the caribbian every now and then. If I felt like it I could go buy a friggin supercharged Z06 but I would rather have other toys and a life.

In the ghetto 20 miles south of here a lot of people drive escalades and live in $30,000 houses. Just goes to show you that even the lower class can drive almost anything. Hell If i didnt have a $950 house payment I could get a damn viper.
Dont ever call someone poor because of what they drive. My friend drives a $1,000 1994 cutlass and he makes over $45,000 + overtime a year.

My coworker drives a 2000 honda civic but he spends the entire month of January every year in a 5 star resort in acapulco. Income is in no way directly related to the car you drive.

For the money you have a fast fun reliable truck. "say no to R/T" is just making a stupid comment with no way to back it up. I cant think of any other way to make a truck as fast and reliable as yours for the amount you spent. Only way close would be to build up some carburated v8 S-10 and tub the back but in no way would that be a good daily driver.

Fartblosom- I,ve got combatboots older than you. I also have seniority at a large corp. so earning power trumps yours also. I still have my bigblock RT(not a truck for you puppys.) that was running high 12s before you were born. As far as your love for Chevys-The lighting out tows, out handles, and out runs both the SS and RT. You wander in darkness-Bye.

IMO ... The Dakota R/T is OK in my book. You make some valid points, but there are more things to consider than a time slip. It's a cool factory street toy.

I would buy one for the right price. The 360 is a gas hog ... try to keep your foot out of it.

If you're into racing ... "There's no replacement for displacement".

Talk about money ... It will be more collectable down the road.

As far as insurance ... keep it out of the ditches and/or change your insurance company.

Lightning, are you kidding? I thought we were talking the same price bracket. I can get a 2002 R/T for 5,000 dollars less than a lightning. Well if price isnt an issue then ill just move up to the SRT-10 and drop in a turbo or spray the crap out of it.

I have a 99 ext cab 4x4 sport 5.2L and raced a stock R/T (on the street, nothing formal) and all I have is a flowmaster dual exhaust and we were dead even. So I was a little dissapointed with the power but felt better about not having an R/T. But dont get me wrong I still love the looks of them and wouldve bought one if it camein 4 wheel drive. Anyone who lives where it snows knows a 2 wheel drive truck is worth as much as tin sh!t in a gold mine!

Ive been driving two wheel drives for decades. Big snow tires, two to three houndred pounds in the back(like fatboy RT), and a good lsd and go for it. Four wheel drives are fun in deep snow but I don,t like pulling the weight in the summer. As for price deff.- The spread between the lighting and R/T, is about the same as the spread between the R/T and 4.7 dakota. The 5.2 and 4.7 are better at cost per smile!

I got a 98 R/T with 70k miles. It's paid for and runs great. For the last 3 years its been running stong with no problems. Every truck has it ups and downs. I personally enjoy my truck and didnt buy it cause I think its faster then a 4.7 or 5.2 but because I think its badass. Just my opinion, I think I'll keep it.
