I need a new or remanufactured transmission that will fit my 1997 5.2. Do you all know of any great websites for new or remanuactured tannys maybe even a performance tranny? How much power can our 46re tranny's take?

I'm not affiliated with these guys, but they get the nod. I have the Level 2 Viper 518. Look at what you get for the money, and that includes a performance converter without a core return hassle. How much HP can they take? How much ya got? The Level 2 is good for 500HP, and that's the mildest they make.

They're not telling much about what actually goes into the units, but it's probably pretty much the same stuff. What you need to determine is if the lower price includes a torque converter, and if they require a core return. These two issues will add up quite a bit to the bottom line. If that lower price is what you'll pay for the tranny and converter, with no additional core issues, it looks like a good deal, but if there's a core issue, just the shipping can take a big bite out of the price difference, and you don't have an extra tranny to sell locally, or rebuild/experiment with on your own. A good converter will run over $300. Just get the details before you buy.
