My rig is a 93 v8 cc 4x4 auto. When i rev it up and let off the gas completely, i notice a bit of that popping sound in the exhaust. Just wondering what that is.

I don't know what the popping noise is, but if you put a flowmaster or another performance muffler on it,it will pop louder.I have looked for the popping sound for years and have talked to people that have the same problem.Nobody can come up with anything.I think maybe weak valve springs or a bad valve. That is the only thing I can think of. It would be nice if someone knew what it is. If you find out what it is I would like to know and when I find out I will post it. Goodluck.

It's caused by a back draw of pressure. You rev it up-if you keep up the revs it has a normal exhaust through the pipes. If you rev and let off, the exhaust draws back in to fill the vacuum creating a popping sound. You hear that all the time with the ricers.

i heard the older dak's(92-95) with the obd1's had something called a powertrain control module. as i was reading, it didnt say where it was, or what it even did, but it did say that it was a semi-common problem and when it goes, that popping starts.

ok, was just BSing before to see if anyone would call me on the BS. Real reason cars can run rough and "Pop back" is because of several possibilities. One is erratic ignition timing, lean fuel mixture, or improper operation of the EGR ( exhaust gas recirculation ) valve.
